Short description: 
Leather is made of animal hide or skin in tanning process. It is durable and flexible material that biodegrades in 25-40 years.
Impact on the environment: 
High in the form of CO2 pollution created by livestock and by the water waste and water contamination made by the tanning.
Use: 
Footwear, clothing, accessories, automotive and air travel (seats) industries, furniture, arts & crafts.
Types: 
Full-grain, Top-grain, Split, Suede, Coated, Faux (synthetic)
What to look for? 
Look for Leather Standards by Oeko-tex, or brands that obtain leather form Leather Working Group (LWG). There is also recycled leather brands such as embrace™, or Recyc Leather ™.
Did you know? 
We wear as much as 4 items of leather everyday? Think of belts, wallets, shoes or wristband on your watch or a necklace. The matter of fact is that if the natural leather was not used, you will most likely be wearing synthetic alternatives.
