Made of post-consumer or post-industrial PET/polyester. The recycled PET is in general of less quality than virgin polyester and therefore has to be mixed with virgin polyester to regain its quality.
Impact on the environment:
High but lower than virgin polyester, as it needs fewer resources and keeps plastic out of the landfill for at least one cycle.
Use:
Clothing/footwear industry, home textiles and furnishings, food and drink packaging, packaging, building industry, and more…
Types:
rPet, Repreve, SEAQUAL, Primaloft
What to look for?
Makers mentioned above or brands having certifications such as GRS – Global Recycle Standard.
Did you know?
Not all post-consumer polyester can be recycled, as it needs to be 100% polyester. It also cannot be recycled endlessly. Recycling still keeps at least one load of PET out of the landfill and saves resources used in virgin material production though.
