Fair Trade

FAIR TRADE

Terms

Fair trade is a movement and/or arrangement for makers and producers from developing countries to obtain fair trading, securing equal or higher payments for makers and sustainable production. It mostly used in the export of commodities such as cocoa, coffee, sugar, fruits, etc., but recently also for textile industry. The concept of fair trade is proven to be more efficient in supporting production in developing countries than charity or traditional aid. The fair trade certifications/labelling are carried out by certifiers such as Fairtrade International, Make Trade Fair, Eco-social, Fair Trade USA. It is important to note that although the idea behind fair trade labelling and certification is great, the enforcement of the standards for all the production is impossible and therefore not all products labeled as such are really fairly traded.
